MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - "It's the oldest profession in the world," said Benjamin Howard.

Eleven people, nine women and two men, were arrested and charged with prostitution near a school Wednesday during an undercover prostitution sting.

Members of the undercover operation vice team with the Memphis Police Department picked up the men and women, all between the ages of 28 - 54, on Wednesday.

The defendants were allegedly willing to have sex, or engage in some form of sexual activity, for as little as $20.

"It's bad to hear because it's sending the wrong message to the kids and that's the way you can get things," said Benjamin Howard. "They see people walking down the street and they might think hey look they're making easy money," added Howard.

Court records say the prostitution arrests were all within a mile and a half from Manassas High School, W.H. Brewster Elementary School, Melrose High School, Northside High School and Central High School.

The following people were arrested in the prostitution bust: Doris Riley, Gina Smith, Jessica Morrow, Lakeshia Jones, Latonya Rogers, Loretta Mobley, Paulette Woodson, Verna Newman, Vonda Spencer, Marico Jackson and Phillip Harris.
