MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are looking for a thief who reportedly stole packages from a United States Postal Service van Monday while the USPS employee was walking door-to-door.

Reportedly, the employee parked the delivery van in the 400 block of Dison Avenue while en route, when the employee returned to the van a window was smashed and packages were gone.

According to the United States Postal Service, there is no guarantee that the senders who did not buy insurance will receive their money back.

"Worth say $400 and $500 you're probably going to want to look at some insurance," says Mail Center owner Mark Weber.

Weber says there are easy ways that you can protect your shipping investment, starting with insurance coverage and signature-required delivery.

"I just never thought I would need to buy insurance," says shipping customer Larry Elmore.

FedEx and UPS automatically provide $100 of insurance coverage when you ship an item, while the United States Postal Service provides $50 for Priority Express Packages.

Weber says it is often better to purchase more insurance coverage if you are shipping an expensive item.
