Arkansas shooting suspect in custody, 16-year-old remains in hospital
Joshua Wilson will never go to his high school prom, finish college, or even get a chance a drive his first car. His life, cut short. The 12-year old suffered a fatal gunshot Saturday morning.
His brother, 16-year-old Xavier Melton, is at Regional One Medical Center with severe head injuries; his mother by his side.
Her ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Ricardo McDaniel, is in jail.
Neighbor Shaquita Agnew knew these brothers well and says they both were straight-A students.
"These kids were above average, they were so sweet, they were so sweet," said Agnew. "It really makes me want to shed a tear."
Police say Ricardo McDaniel made his way inside the family's home this morning, shot the 12-year-old in the face and hit the 16-year-old on the head with a gun. Though their mother was once in a relationship with McDaniel, police haven't released a specific motive for the shooting.
Antonio Jordan treated the boys like they were his own, and his kids were best friends with them.
"It hurt me a little bit because I felt like I knew them," said Jordan. "I used to talk to them, play and wrestle with the kids myself a lot, take them to the store buy them juices a lot, when they would be out here playing all together."
Now as the family begins to make funeral arrangements, neighbors shake their heads in disbelief.
Agnew added, "No kid ever deserves that, but I know those kids they didn't deserve that. I don't care, they didn't deserve it.
