A deadly accident on the interstate Saturday morning. Two people are dead after the crash on east bound I-240 just east of the Lamar Overpass.

Police say a black Chevy Impala driven by Linzie Maxwell slammed into the back of a silver Kia driven by Robert French. Both died from their injuries.

Less than 24 hours after the crash the wrecked cars have been towed away, but clothing, broken glass and other debris remain as signs of the fatal wreck.

After slamming into French's Kia, Maxwell's Impala ran into a third vehicle, sending it crashing down an embankment.

Investigators say the people in the third vehicle, a black Nissan Maxima suffered only minor injuries. According to police, French pulled over on the express way to check a possible flat tire. That's when Maxwell rear ended him, and French was thrown from his vehicle. The Impala then careened into the Nissan.

Hours later, a second crash involving a Memphis police cruiser sent three people to the hospital in non critical condition.

The officer driving the police car says a Nissan Altima turned in front of him. The people in the Nissan are expected to be okay, and the MPD officer was not hurt.
