MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Fire Department responded to a fire at Children's Palace Learning Academy, located at 2451 Summer Avenue, near Hollywood Street.

The building was abandoned and no one was inside at the time of the blaze.

"That business been abandoned for about three years or more. And a lot of homeless people was staying up in there. Really some of them was sitting right there last night," said witness Stan Martin.

People in the area say homeless people often break in the windows of the building for a place to stay.

MFD says the fire was set inside the structure, causing $50,000 in damage. Investigators believe the blaze was a result of arson.
