(WMC) - An atheist convention at the Peabody Hotel Easter weekend is raising eyebrows and stirring up emotions for some people in the Mid-South.
The American Atheist National Convention will be held at the hotel April 2 - 5, 2015. Thousands of people are expected to attend.
"I don't think it's right," says Dax Poparwski.
The conference will feature a variety of speakers, along with a speaker from The Satanic Temple.
American Atheist say they fight for the civil liberties of atheists, and conventions like this one help to build community among those who do not believe.
"We want to show people that they don't have to stay in a religion they no longer believe in, because there is a community waiting on them when they leave," said American Atheist Director of Development Nick Fish.
According to Fish, this conference is held each year on Easter because this time of year is known for traveling.
The group American Atheist is a nonprofit organization.
