(WMC) - It's a road Memphis professional football fans have been down before, many times.

The Memphis Business Journal reports a new spring professional League appears to be popping up, and they're tapping Memphis for one of its charter franchises.

The North American Football League, or NAFL, says it's set to kickoff in April of 2015, with the Memphis Kings among the 8 franchises reportedly already committed.

According to the league's website, the NALF will start out with Memphis, Birmingham (Ala.), Columbus (Ohio), Hartford (Conn.), Louisville (Ky.), Raleigh-Durham (N.C.), Orlando (Fla.), and Richmond (Va.).

These teams will be owned by the league initially to insure competitive balance. Plans are to eventually expand to 16 teams.

Some innovations promised by the NAFL include giving fans the chance to help draft players for their teams.

All games would be streamed over the Internet by the NAFL Sports Network. Memphis has been involved in 4 spring football leagues over the years, including the WFL, USFL, Arena League and the CFL.

In each case after promising starts, the League, or the franchise folded.
