(WMC) - Investigators say the man who was robbed and shot while in his backyard is alive. Officials say he is in the hospital and is fighting.

Memphis police do not have any suspect information.

In the 5000 block of Ross Road neighbors say they can't stand the crime.

"We don't need this," said Stephen Sangster.

They are upset about Friday morning's shooting.

"I can't believe somebody came over here and tried to pull something like that on him," said Sangster.

The man who lives in the home was robbed and shot in his backyard. Police say it happened while he was trying to load a broken down truck into another truck.

"Unfortunately right now, we have limited suspect information," said Mickey Keaton with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say the case is a total mystery and they need tips from the public.

"We're encouraging anybody that may've been driving down the street this morning between 7:30 and 8:30 if they saw anything or heard anything please contact the sheriff's office," said Keaton.

The victim is said to be "extremely critical." He was flown by helicopter to Regional One Health.

"It bothers me because it was right next door," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.

He says his own safety is now in his own hands.

"It just makes me carry more, you know what I mean. Because it could've easily been me," said the neighbor.

Neighbors are on edge and say they are ready to take a stand.

"Uh, I'm a little worried. I'm a little cautious now. My thought process is going to be definitely have to change.  I'm definitely going to have to do a little more neighborhood watching than I've been doing," said Sangster.
