Police charge man in East Memphis rape

(WMC) - Neighbors who spoke to WMC Action News 5 on Saturday afternoon are relieved to hear that 35-year-old Kelvin Montgomery is now in custody.
Montgomery is charged with raping a woman in East Memphis in the 4900 block of Willow Road.
According to an affidavit, on Monday, June 16 the victim says she met Montgomery after her shift at a local restaurant. They had drinks and went back to his home. Once there, she claims Montgomery handcuffed, ball-gagged, raped and threatened with her a bat.
While Montgomery was asleep, the victim says she planned her escape and ran from the home naked, seeking help from nearby neighbors.
It was a possible crime stoppers tip that led police to an alleged East Memphis rapist.
Over the past week, 35-year-old Montgomery's face was plastered to poles all along Willow Road, and police canvassed the community on Saturday; checking on neighbors in the area.
A man, said to be Montgomery's roommate, answered the door but had no comment when WMC Action News 5 went to the home.
Long time residents in the community were surprised to learn about the attack.
"This is the first time I've ever heard of rape in this neighborhood of all the years I've lived here and even the years I've been away," said Ray Noe.
Montgomery is charged with two counts aggravated rape and one count aggravated kidnapping, and has been released from jail on a $100,000 bond. He is set to face a judge on Monday.
