(WMC) - The Guest House at Graceland is in the works.

Whitehaven residents had their first look at a planned $70 million hotel next to Graceland on Thursday; they liked what they saw.

The residents who attended the meeting received a letter from the developer, whom wants to build a hotel on Elvis Presley Boulevard just down from Graceland.

"I don't think many people know what to expect. I haven't heard anyone complaining at this point," said Ceasar Gillespie, who lives in Whitehaven.

And when residents saw the plans for the 450-room hotel, they cheered. It will be built in the style of Graceland, even the fence will look like the King's. The Guest House at Graceland is a $70 million project built with private money on 25 acres, which remains mostly vacant as of May.

The resort-style hotel will have a full-service restaurant, sports bar and lounge, and meeting rooms. The Heartbreak Hotel will eventually be torn down.

Geraldine Rush's mother lives right next to the property of the upcoming hotel.

"We are trying to find out if they intend to purchase more of the property and when," she said.

The subdivisions around Graceland are zoned residential. So they will not purchase more property.

Many Whitehaven residents have been waiting for something to happen in the depressed area along Elvis Presley Boulevard.

The developers want to break ground officially in August. They hope to complete the hotel in a year.

It is part of a $43 million project to improve Elvis Presley Boulevard.
