Antonio Burks winning with new business


(WMC-TV) - An inspiring story about a former Grizzlies star surfaces shortly after them team finished their historic season
Antonio Burks is no longer in a wheelchair, after being shot by a robber in 2009.
He takes his new moves to a different court as an entrepreneur and cheering on his old team at the same time.
"They had the city very inspired, and we really believe we can really win a championship," said Burks.
His new business, started in May, is called Antonio Burks Star Maintenance and Lawn Services. And former Grizzlies star Antonio Burks is winning, as a champion in business.
When robber shot Burks, it ended his NBA career right after he signed a multi-million dollar contract.
"When I had my problems as far as getting shot and stuff like that, I wasn't really following God's lead. Now that I'm following God's lead, everything is starting to turn around. I'm blessed," he said. "The last two, three years have been very hard."
There are some similarities to his old job.
"Grinding, it's a grind. Every day you have to get out and get customers," said Burks.
He said there is hope after adversity.
"It's all about trying to lay a foundation to have a good life, and that's what I'm trying to do. Just trying to start over without basketball and hope everything works out," said Burks.
Burks plans to diversify.
In addition to his lawn care service, he said he plans to get into real estate and said he would take a coaching gig.
