Roughly 100,000 growl towels printed for playoffs
(WMC-TV) - The company that prints the iconic growl towels broke into the NBA with the Grizzlies. It is now finding success that matches the Grizz by using a similar method.
Decorated with blue Grizzlies flags, Peggy Vanderbilt's car represents her team.
"[The growl towel] is for me when I get ready to holler at them when they not doing what they supposed to do," said Vanderbilt with a laugh.
The towels are a tangible thing that have gone viral in real life. A new towel is made for each playoff game.
Some people have found a way to repurpose the towels. For example, some guys on twitter have turned them into ties.
Others are selling the growl towels on eBay for up to $20 a piece.
A Nashville Company, Something Inked, prints the towels.
"The Grizzlies are our number one team," said Bill Feldberg with Something Inked.
The company has contracts with several NBA teams including both potential Western Conference Finals foes.
So far in the 2013 playoffs alone, Something Inked has printed close to 750,000 towels with less than 50 employees. Roughly 100,000 towels have been printed for the Grizzlies playoff games so far this year.
"We're a small company with a lot of heart. We really take on the same mentality that the Grizzlies have. A lot of heart and a lot of grit and grind. There's no superstar among us. We all do it together, and that's what makes us successful," said Feldberg.
