(WMC-TV) - Dyer County Sheriff, Jeff Box said investigators are working to make a solid case that will end in a conviction in the murder of Karen Swift.

"We have an individual that so far we haven't been able to rule out as a person of interest," Box said.

Box said he's not ready to name that person or say they are a suspect in the murder of Dyer County mom, Karen Swift.

"In the start of the investigation we had several individuals we needed to determine if they were involved in the case," Box said.

Swift disappeared Halloween weekend after a party. The 44-year-old's body was found in December near a cemetery not far from her home.

Swift's husband, who has not been identified as a person of interest, hired high profile attorney Steve Farese.

"They said they've eliminated other suspects," Farese said. "We'll just have to see who this person of interest is."

"I don't want to speak badly about Karen but there were some things going on that were quite unusual," Farese said in an interview with Action News 5 a few months ago. "Swift was divorcing her husband. The Dyer County Sheriff's Department is being very careful with its investigation."

Sheriff Box said a lot of evidence had been collected and much of it is at the TBI lab. Box also said the secret service is now involved in the case. He said agents are looking at the GPS on her phone to determine every move she made when she left her house for the Halloween party.

Farese said it appears at this point the case so far is circumstantial.

"We've done some investigating of our own," Farese said. "We'll keep that ourselves. We'll look at what they have if in fact my client is charged."

The Sheriff said there is a lot of information that has been gathered that cannot be released. And he added investigators are waiting for more information to come in.

"I'm very confident we will make an arrest and conviction in this case," Box said.
