COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Collierville couple has rescinded a $30,000 reward to recover the body of their son, who was presumed killed while cave diving.
The Commercial Appeal reports the parents of Ben McDaniel decided to take back the reward over concerns that it could tempt inexperienced divers to risk their lives in order to collect the money.
Last month, 43-year-old Larry Higginbotham drowned inside the cave at Vortex Spring in Florida where McDaniel was last seen. Higginbotham's family said the diver wasn't looking for Ben McDaniel, but other cave divers are skeptical.
And many cave divers who already have scoured the area looking for McDaniel are convinced his body is not there. The 30-year-old vanished in August 2010.
