The Memphis Tiger women’s basketball team opened up the Las Vegas Invitational Friday, facing off with St. John’s University. While the Tigers staged a late-game comeback, Memphis was unable to hold on as they faced the 61-57 loss.
The Tigers, a collection of 5th-year seniors and upper-class transfers, stormed into Memorial Gym in Nashville and proceeded to sink the Commodores in their own sweltering arena, with 76-67 in the final Monday night.
For the first time since it was ruled that the Memphis men’s basketball program would not face a postseason ban as a result of their recruitment of James Wiseman, Head Coach Penny Hardaway discussed the ruling that can only be viewed as a major win for the program.
Monday was the first day back at class for University of Memphis students since the news broke of the school’s men’s basketball program being charged with several allegations by the NCAA’s Independent Accountability Resolution Process (IARP).
