Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk and Family Picnic celebrates 29th year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South held its 29th annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Awareness Walk.

Since starting in 1997, the event has grown from 60 people to more than 2500, and it has become one of the largest disability awareness events in the Mid-South.

Organizers said the one-mile fun walk is designed to promote awareness of the inherent worth and abilities of people with Down syndrome.
