Corinth prepares for President Trump visit Monday

CORINTH, Miss. (WBBJ) - Excitement is building in Corinth as the city prepares to welcome President Donald Trump. Local leaders say the visit is already bringing more attention to the community, with hotels, restaurants and shops seeing an increase in activity.

“The hotels have been overrun with people. There’s only a couple extra rooms right now,” said GT McCullough, Alliance president.

Business impact and security

Leaders hope the extra attention will have a lasting impact on local businesses and encourage more people to visit the area, but with a presidential visit comes extra security and potential traffic delays.

President Trump is expected to hold the rally Monday at Crossroads Arena. Local officials say people should plan ahead, expect possible road closures and delays, and give themselves extra time to get where they need to go.

A historic moment for the area

Corinth may be a small community, but city and county leaders say the visit is a historic moment for the area.

“And for him to be here. No matter your political affiliation you take it for what it’s worth. It is a sitting president visiting your city and county, and that’s enormous,” said Bobby Burns, Alcorn County chief administrative officer.

Traffic and road closures expected

Corinth City Mayor Ralph Dance said residents should be prepared for temporary inconveniences as law enforcement works to coordinate security and traffic.

“As far as everybody on 72 and all the surrounding areas out there, just be patient. Understand that some of this is going to be temporary. It may last 15, 20 minutes, 30 minutes — we’re not sure. But just understand, it’s just temporary,” Dance said.

With visitors expected from Mississippi and neighboring states, local leaders say they hope people will take time to experience what Corinth has to offer.

They also encourage attendees to arrive early and follow official guidance about traffic and access to the venue.
