Memphis man killed by stray bullet while working at Nashville-area Sam’s Club
Family says 55-year-old was a Navy veteran and father of three
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) - A Memphis man was shot and killed while working overnight at a Sam’s Club in the Nashville area.
Investigators say it was a stray bullet that killed the 55-year-old.
Victim identified as Navy veteran
Paris Carlock was a Navy veteran and a father of three. He was working for Frito-Lay, stocking shelves inside a Nashville-area Sam’s Club at about 4 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators say a bullet fired from outside a nightclub down the street pierced a metal wall at the Sam’s Club, hitting Carlock in the chip aisle. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
Family remembers him
Carlock’s sister drove from Memphis and recalled their last conversation together, not knowing it would be their last.
“We were always a phone call away… We was always messing with each other. Last time I talked to him, I was messing with him… He’s like, ‘You need a hug,’ and I said, ‘You need a wig,’” she said.
She said if she could talk with him today, she would tell him that she loved him. She said he always knew that.
Investigation ongoing
Investigators say a fight outside the nightclub nearby early Sunday morning led to the gunfire and the deadly stray bullet.
Homicide detectives in Nashville are asking anyone with information to come forward so they can find the person responsible.
Carlock’s body will be brought back to Memphis for burial.
