MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two teenagers were shot and injured in their bedrooms early Labor Day morning in Autumn Ridge, according to police.

Officers responded to the 6800 block of Keystone Drive at 4:39 a.m. Monday for a report of an aggravated assault involving a firearm discharge, according to police.

Officers arrived and made contact with two juveniles struck by gunfire, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old. Both were taken to area hospitals in non-critical condition.

Six people were inside the home when the shots were fired, according to police.

The 17-year-old was in a back bedroom on the right side of the home. The 14-year-old was in the first bedroom to the right. Two others were on a couch in the living room when the shots were fired.

The mother of the two juveniles told police she was sleeping in the back left bedroom when she heard the shots being fired into her home.

The mother, who spoke to Action News 5 on condition of anonymity, said her sons had friends staying the night for the Labor Day holiday.

“It sounded like drums, like a band. So I started screaming,” she said. “And as I’m walking to my hallway, all I see is dust flying everywhere. And I see bullet holes in my walls, in the hallway. So I ran to check on all the kids.”

Security footage taken around 4:30 a.m. on Labor Day shows five gunmen shooting at the home on Keystone Drive.

At least 20 bullet holes, marked by police, appeared aimed at two windows on the home. No neighboring homes appear to have been hit by gunfire.

“I don’t know the kids that were on the outside of my house. I don’t know those kids, and I wish somebody would say something,” the mother said.

The contents of the boys’ bedrooms were badly damaged.

“Both of my kids are innocent, and they are wounded for no reason,” the mother said. “It’s scary knowing that it’s your kids. It’s very scary.”

The mother is asking for justice for her sons, and for the suspects involved to put down their guns.

“It’s more to life than this. Y’all don’t always have to choose a gun. I understand y’all young, and y’all wanna listen to this rap music and go by those rules, but at the end of the day, it’s more to life than being caught up in this,” she said.

The mother said they live in a peaceful family neighborhood but plans to move her and her children after the incident.

Memphis police say this is an ongoing investigation.
