MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Metal Museum celebrated its grand opening Saturday at the new Overton Park.

After ten years and around $35 million, the museum takes over the former Memphis College of Art building.

The campus will have spots for community events and more space for art to be displayed, but also more area and workshops where artists and smiths can create their works of art while teaching others.

“We’re just so excited to be able to open our doors and begin programming, being able to reach a much larger part of the Memphis community, being someplace that’s accessible, that is really inviting and has the space that will enable us to really be a critical part of the cultural community in Memphis,“ said Carissa Hussong, Executive Director.

The old downtown location is going to become an artist residency.
