Oxford residents urged to conserve water amid heat and drought conditions, officials say
OXFORD, Miss . (WMC) - Oxford officials are asking residents to conserve water due to recent extreme temperatures and drought.
According to Oxford Utilities, the water system is experiencing a historically high summer demand due to high temperatures and drought observed over the last 30 days.
As the company works on multiple infrastructure projects to increase the system’s capacity, officials are asking customers to help reduce demand in the meantime.
Oxford Utilities reports that outdoor irrigation accounts for more than half of peak water use, putting the system under high demand during this time of year.
Officials are requesting that customers cut back on their watering by 50% effective immediately and advising that customers water before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. to reduce water loss from heat and evaporation.
