Memphis murder suspect dead after being found shot 90 miles away from crime scene
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - An hours-long manhunt for a murder suspect is over after he was located in a wooded area of Marks, Mississippi.
The Memphis Police Department says 35-year-old Larry Berry was discovered with a suspected gunshot wound to the head.
The Quitman County Sheriff’s Office transported him to a local hospital in critical condition, but he did not survive.
Multiple law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts to locate Berry, including the Memphis Police Department, Marks Police Department, Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and other local, state and federal partners.
Perry was wanted since Thursday morning after allegedly shooting and killing the mother of his children in Cordova, sparking an investigation that led to the safe recovery of her two missing children.
Around 7:30 a.m., Memphis police responded to a shooting call in the 7900 block of Racquetball Lane at the Trinity Lakes Apartments, located off Germantown Parkway.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene. So far, she has not been identified.
“My heart goes out to them cause that’s kind of horrible,” said a resident at the complex who wanted to remain anonymous.
Detectives determined that the victim’s two children were missing and that the suspect, their father, had taken them in a black Mercedes sedan. The children were later located safe at a residence in Robinsonville, Mississippi, before an Endangered Child Alert could be issued.
The resident from the apartment complex said she left to bring her son to school just up the street and came back to find the scene.

“A lot of people was crying. A lot of police officers. A lot of tape spreading far out. It’s covering like two parking areas. So, I’m not sure how big, how big the incident was but I could tell it did a lot of damage because a lot of people pulling up and crying,” said the woman.
The two children were located safe in Robinsonville, Mississippi.
“I’m feeling kind of nervous cause of, like, how could something like that happen over here? I’m thinking these apartments are safe and now we’ve got people that’s getting killed and things. It’s just making me think like should I stay here or should I be moving somewhere else or something,” said another resident at Trinity Lakes who wanted to remain anonymous.
This is the second MPD homicide investigation at Trinity Lake Apartments within 24 hours. Memphis Police arrested a man and charged him with allegedly stabbing his neighbor.
