Southaven Mayor says helping families with blinds, ‘ridiculous’
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) - New details emerged on Friday in the City of Southaven’s newest rule that made broken window blinds a code violation.
“Stop tobacco, alcohol and overeating,” said the mayor of Southaven.
Those words were posted to social media by Mayor Musselwhite when asked if he could support lower income families.
Action News 5 has covered the recent change over the last few days. The ordinance was passed at Tuesday’s board meeting.
The penalties range from a $1,000 fine to 6 months in jail.
Friday morning, a Facebook user named Brenda Dillard wrote, “Is there a way to set up some kind of vouchers or funding to help the lower income families?”
Mayor Musselwhite’s response, “Ridiculous. Stop tobacco, alcohol and overeating and you will have plenty of money.”
Another user pushed back on the response.
Musselwhite responded, “please have them call me and I will help them.”
