Olive Branch airport runway reopened after aircraft incident

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC) - Olive Branch Airport is back open after an incident Wednesday morning closed its runway.

The City of Olive Branch said a small aircraft was involved in an “operational incident” on the runway.

An official with Air Venture Flight Center told Action News 5 that one of its planes had a landing gear issue as an instructor and his students were landing.

“They had the gear down, everything seems to be appropriate and the gear collapsed upon landing,” Jessie Sawyer said,“ is the initial assessment. We’re still doing some of our own investigation. Safety is always, always our highest priority so we will obviously be looking over this aircraft to find exactly what happened with the gear.”

No injuries were reported.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
