MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A woman is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries in the hospital Monday night after she reportedly ran out in front of a Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) bus and was hit.

Memphis police were dispatched to the scene on South Perkins Road at Cottonwood Road in Parkway Village at 6:25 p.m.

The injured pedestrian was sent to the hospital before officers arrived.

The bus driver told police that he was traveling north on Perkins and passing through the green light at Cottonwood when a pedestrian ran in front of the bus, causing him to strike her.

The victim admitted to police at the hospital that she ran across Perkins to get to the bus stop.

Neither the driver nor the bus passengers were injured.

Transit officials released the following statement:

“We are aware of an incident involving a MATA bus and a pedestrian earlier this evening. Our thoughts are with the individual involved. The safety of our riders, team members, and the community we serve is our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with Memphis Police as they investigate.”
