Locals look to change their fortunes ahead of Powerball’s 6th-largest jackpot drawing: ‘Why can’t we win here?’
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Time to pull out the four-leaf clovers, rabbit’s feet, and whatever other talismans bring you luck, because the Powerball jackpot is at its sixth-largest jackpot ever.
Monday’s prize pool is at a staggering $1.1 billion, a huge amount, but still only half the largest ever of $2 billion back in 2022.
Action News 5 spoke with Memphians looking to change their fortunes heading into 2026.

“Well, I hope somebody gets that blessing,” said Sherman Carter. “We’re all people of the world... the blessings are for everybody, not only you and I... but I hope somebody gets the blessing that really needs it. So, you know, that’s a game changer in life if you get that type of money.”
“Hopefully somebody in here will win it,” said Robert Floyd. “They’re winning everywhere else, why can’t we win here?”
Monday’s Powerball drawing happens at 10 p.m.
