Suspects crash into deputy’s vehicle while trying to escape, SCSO says

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) -The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that left one deputy injured.

At around 2:00 a.m. this morning, patrol deputies responded to reports of multiple vehicles being broken into in the City Place Apartment complex located in the area of Crestwyn Hills Drive and Forest Hill Irene in southeast Shelby County.

When deputies arrived, the suspect vehicle attempted to flee by striking a deputy’s vehicle, injuring a deputy.

The suspect’s vehicle continued through the apartment complex until it encountered additional deputies. When the suspect vehicle refused to follow deputies’ commands to stop and began to drive towards deputies, a deputy fired one time at the vehicle.

No one in the vehicle was struck, and all occupants were detained without further incident.

The deputy who was injured after his vehicle was hit suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene by Shelby County Fire.
