Memphis in May announces Ireland as the 2026 honored country
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis in May International Festival announced that Ireland will be the Honored Country for the 2026 festival, bringing Irish culture, creativity and heritage to Memphis in May.
The announcement was shared during the annual Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Circle Luncheon by Memphis in May President & CEO Mack Weaver and Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Ted Townsend.
“Our 2026 honored country is a nation known for its poets and rebels. Where history runs deep, and the welcome is as warm as the people,” Townsend said at the luncheon.
Weaver added, “Every year, Memphis in May brings the world to the Bluff City. And every year, we celebrate a place whose spirit matches our own. A land shaped by resilience, by stories, by songs that echo across generations. Ireland’s dynamic culture, history, and innovation make it a perfect partner for 2026.”
Organizers said the selection will highlight Ireland’s long and varied history, from ancient Celtic roots and the legacy of figures such as King Brian Boru, to more recent milestones including the Good Friday Agreement and Ireland’s role in contemporary Europe. The country is also known for natural landmarks such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher, and cultural icons including W.B. Yeats, the Blarney Stone and the city of Dublin.
Ireland was previously the Honored Country in 2005. Memphis in May officials said they look forward to showcasing Irish culture in the 901 again in 2026.
