16-year-old paralyzed in accident at trampoline park, family says
SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) — A Tennessee family is asking for prayers and support after a high school student was seriously injured at a trampoline park over Thanksgiving break.
The family of 16-year-old Maggie Isble said she spent that day flipping and tumbling with her siblings when everything changed in an instant.
Isble’s older sister, Destiny Isble, said Maggie tried to do a backflip off a trapeze bar and went head-first into a foam pit.
“Mid-flip, she landed head first into the foam pit and went all the way through the foam and hit her head on the concrete and broke her neck,” Destiny Isble said.
Paramedics rushed Maggie Isble to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Within days, the Liberty Creek High School student was taken to a spinal rehabilitation center in Atlanta, where she is now beginning what her family expects will be a long road to recovery.
Destiny Isble said her sister’s accident has made her nervous about doing flips at trampoline parks.
“I would just say, just to be careful and keep an eye on your loved ones, especially if you do go to places like that, because accidents are inevitable,” she said.
Despite the fear and uncertainty, the Isble family is clinging to small steps forward.
Over the weekend, Destiny Isble said her sister was able to feed herself for the first time since the accident.
“She was able to reach her hand to her mouth and feed herself a Cheeto, which is amazing, because she couldn’t even get her arms past here,” Destiny Isble said. “She was able to do that, and she has some feeling on the sides of her legs.”
The family plans to spend Christmas together in Atlanta so Maggie Isble doesn’t have to be away from her loved ones during the holiday.
