RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - A detention officer had a portion of her face bitten off by an inmate at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center.

The assault occurred on Monday evening, when Sgt. Stephanie Dodd responded to a disturbance at the cell of inmate Monica Gandy.

Gandy has been indicted on charges of retaliation against a public servant and attempted grand larceny.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, Gandy refused all verbal commands, and when Dodd opened the cell door, Gandy immediately began punching Dodd.

After the two fell to the ground, the inmate bit off a portion of Dodd’s eyelid/eyebrow.
