Retired firefighter and his wife die hours apart from each other

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) – A retired firefighter in Alabama and his wife both died on Saturday after battling health issues, an end to a love story that began 49 years ago. They were both in their 70s.

Glenn Franklin Cain worked as a firefighter for 26 years but stayed active in the years after his retirement and worked another 22 years before a final retirement.

His wife, Betty Jean Cain, was a beautician in Dothan for nearly 50 years.

“She was the love of his life, and he was the love of hers,” the couple’s obituary reads.

The obituary also revealed that the two were lovers of cruises and the beach.

They were lifetime Southside Baptist Church of Dothan members.

Funeral services for the Cains will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
