Former Memphis Tigers shot, killed by police officer in Georgia

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A law enforcement officer in Georgia shot and killed a former Memphis Tigers football player.

La’Andre Thomas, 27, was a defensive back for the Tigers from 2017 to 2019.

Officers with the Sandy Springs Police Department were called to a home on the morning of December 4 where a woman told police she was assaulted by a man while she was walking her dog.

Officers tracked down the man, later identified as Thomas, at a bus stop and approached him.

According to police, Thomas grabbed a handgun from his waistband. That’s when an officer shot Thomas.

He was rushed to the hospital where he latter died.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances behind Thomas’ death.
