MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - With colder weather settling into the Mid-South this week, Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is calling on the community to help ensure students and families stay warm throughout the winter season.

On Tuesday, December 2, the state’s largest school district will host a community-wide Winter Donation Drive, inviting residents, businesses, and local organizations to contribute essential cold-weather items.

What MSCS Needs

This year, the district is specifically requesting donations of:

  • Gloves
  • Scarves
  • Hats
  • Coats for all ages
  • Any additional winter gear to help keep students warm

Rosalind Stevenson, director of Family and Community Engagement for MSCS, emphasized the importance of donating for older students as well.

“We are looking for all age groups. Typically, we get more coats for our little ones, but we’re hoping to get a little bit more for our students who are in high school because they need coats as well,” Stevenson said.

Additional Ways to Support

In addition to warm clothing, MSCS is also accepting:

  • Monetary donations
  • Gift cards
  • Toys
  • Electronics
  • Other general support items for families in need

Event Details

The donation event will take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA) at 2485 Union Avenue, giving community members ample time throughout the day to drop off contributions.

As temperatures continue to fall, MSCS hopes the community will come together to help students stay safe, warm, and focused on learning this winter.
