Doctor reunited with man he saved after heart attack turned car crash
ATLANTA, Ga. (ANF/Gray News) — A man who suffered a heart attack before crashing his vehicle has been reunited with the doctor who saved his life on the scene.
On Friday, Dr. Kehinde Idowu reconnected with the man he helped save for the first time since the health scare.
John Nimmo had suffered a heart attack while behind the wheel on Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell, Georgia more than a week before.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since, nine days. I counted down. We communicated back and forth a few times. But it’s been a countdown, and I couldn’t wait to meet him,” Nimmo said.
The meeting was nothing short of emotional. Idowu said he is just glad he was in the right place at the right time. He also had the right tools and the will to spring into action.
All the doctor did after he saw Nimmo crash was perform CPR on him while waiting for first responders.
“It’s not always that we see the outcome that he experienced in the timeframe that he did. So to not only see it, but to share the same joy with him and his family, as you can tell, it’s overwhelming,” Idowu said.
Now that Nimmo is safe and sound, Idowu wanted to hear his heart beating for himself.
Nimmo said this Thanksgiving feels like a bonus of a holiday, knowing that if the doctor had not been driving nearby, he may not have made it.
“Every Thanksgiving from here on out, every Christmas, every holiday from here on out will be because of you,” Nimmo said to Idowu.
While the two will now share a bond that likely lasts the rest of their lives, Idowu said he does not want any credit for simply doing the right thing.
“For all the circumstances that played through for me to be there, the staff at Midas to help bring him out, for the police officers that showed up with a defibrillator, for the EMS that was able to get him to the hospital, for the doctors there that took care of him, all of it just played out in his favor,” Idowu said. “And God really is the one who gets the glory for that.”
The two will likely remain friends for many years to come.
