Man arrested for crash that killed teacher and his 1-year-old son, sheriff’s office says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Gray News) – A man in Florida was arrested and charged with two counts of DUI after a crash claimed the lives of a math teacher and his 1-year-old son.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Logan Fletcher Park turned himself in Sunday after the sheriff’s office investigated the crash.
Detectives said they determined Park was driving under the influence of alcohol on May 16 on Baymeadows Road near San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville.
Park’s vehicle hit Mitchell Patch as he was leaving a gathering and carrying his son, Everett. The two were crossing Baymeadows Road when they were hit.
Patch was a math teacher at a local elementary school.
After the crash, Park was taken to a hospital, where his blood alcohol level was drawn. Officials said the results showed a BAC of .107, which is well above the legal limit.
Following an investigation, authorities worked with the State Attorney’s Office to obtain a warrant for Park’s arrest.
The sheriff’s office said you should not drive impaired and should instead drive sober, use a designated driver or get a ride through a rideshare app.
“We are heartbroken this tragedy occurred, and our thoughts are with Mitchell and Everett’s loved ones,” the sheriff’s office said.
