BIG MEMPHIS: Thousands celebrate 901 Day in the Bluff City
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - September 1 in Memphis isn’t just another day on the calendar; it’s 901 Day, a celebration of everything that makes the Bluff City special.
Since the day was first celebrated 12 years ago, it has grown into one of the biggest parties in the city.
“I love my city, like it does not get better than Memphis,” Stephanie Cole said.
It does not matter if you’re the biggest celebrity in the city or if you just moved to town, like Antonio Willis. This is the day when you see the best of Memphis.
“It’s really the culture, and I am just getting into it, and I am getting the opportunity to experience it; it’s just a good vibe,” Willis said.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young said that is what this day is all about: showing off what makes this place unique.
“One of the things that is really going to push us over the top in our community is pride in who we are, and all of the great assets we have in our community, the culture, the character, the vibe, those things are important,” Young said.
Every year, 901 Day gets a little bigger, and the night is still young!
Festivities continue through the night on Beale Street and all across the city.
