MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The trial date in the civil lawsuit filed by RowVaughn Wells, the mother of Tyre Nichols, against the city of Memphis has been pushed back four months.

Judge Sheryl Lipman has pushed the trial back from Monday, July 13, 2026, to November 9, 2026.

RowVaughn Wells’ attorneys filed a motion last month asking the judge to extend the time allowed to gather evidence for the case, arguing that the city purposefully stalled at every turn.

They say this version of the lawsuit was filed in November 2024.

According to the newest filing, the city of Memphis didn’t give them the bulk of the documents they needed until the first week of July.

The counsel is seeking $550 million in damages, a number city officials say would “essentially bankrupt” the city.
