MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis-Shelby County Schools is preparing for a loss of $17 million in federal funding.

“This funding currently plays a vital role in sustaining essential services across the district, including professional development for educators, instructional support, extended learning opportunities, and services for immigrant students,” MSCS said in a statement.

MSCS says 100 positions may be impacted by the cut in funding if not restored.

The district says they are working on contingency plans to minimize disruption, which may lead to the district making “difficult decisions.”
