Bond revoked for suspect accused of trying to run over Southaven police officer in stolen car

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) - The man accused of trying to mow over a Southaven police officer in a stolen car last week “won’t be returning to Memphis anytime soon,” according to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office.

Monday morning, prosecutors filed to revoke bond for the suspect, now identified as 20-year-old Marcus Coleman, of Memphis.

That request was granted, and so he will remain at the DeSoto County Jail for now.

Coleman is facing “serious felonies” after an alleged attempt to evade police officers in a stolen car.

Friday morning, the police department reported that a stolen car was spotted at the Sonic Drive-In on Main Street.

When officers responded, the driver rammed a patrol car and tried to run over an officer who was on foot, according to police.

SPD reported that shots were fired, and a foot chase followed.

The suspect, now identified as Coleman, was caught shortly thereafter.

Coleman is now charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, conspiracy to commit a felony crime, disorderly conduct/failure to comply, driving with a suspended license, evading law enforcement, paraphernalia possession [undisclosed], receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, and being a fugitive from justice.

“We’re changing his address — to a place with bars and no drive-thru," the DA’s office stated in a release.
