HORN LAKE, Miss. (WMC) - The city of Horn Lake elected a new mayor Tuesday night.

Democrat Jimmy Stokes won the election, defeating Republican candidate Danny Klein by less than 100 votes.

Stokes’ election coincided with a sweep for Democrats in Horn Lake, who now hold six of the city’s eight alderman seats.

Stokes has served as City Planning Commissioner for Ward 5 before his election.

He is the pastor at Northeast Side church of Christ in Bartlett.

“I’m deeply honored and humbled to be elected as your next Mayor,” said Stokes in a public statement. “To my family, friends, campaign team, and every supporter who believed in this vision from day one, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the people of Horn Lake: I’m ready to get to work and begin implementing the goals we set throughout this campaign, promoting transparency, uplifting our youth, embracing diversity, and building a better Horn Lake for all.”

Stokes will replace Mayor Allen Latimer, who has served since 2013 but did not seek re-election.
