‘Incident’ involving Marion boys’ baseball team under investigation, per school district
MARION, Ark. (WMC) - Local law enforcement agencies and the Marion School District are investigating a recent “incident” involving members of its boys baseball team.
Action News 5 received a tip with allegations that a student was sexually assaulted by another student while on a school-sanctioned trip.
When we reached out to the district about those allegations, school officials released the following statement:
The “incident” in question has not yet been confirmed.
A parent of students at the school said she wanted to stay anonymous because she is afraid of repercussions, but she doesn’t want the issue to go unknown.
“It’s very upsetting to think that the adults in the situation are not handling this appropriately,” she said. “And this little boy has got to go and deal with this every day, and those kids are still at the school playing baseball.”
She said she wants to see more transparency about this incident from the school district. She said the lack of transparency concerns her as a parent.
“Somebody has to be held accountable; it’s not okay to just sweep it under the rug and act like this isn’t happening,” she said.
The parent said she has students who travel with school district teams and is now concerned about her kids’ safety when they travel to events away from home.
Action News 5 reached back out to the district to ask if any students were suspended and if any coaches or staff are on leave pending the investigation. We are still waiting for a response.
