MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - On this First Alert Weather Day, it is crucial for Mid-Southerners to stay alert, protect themselves, and make sure their homes and belongings are as stormproof as possible.

With that in mind, a few places throughout the Mid-South are offering free sandbags to those who may be in need of some.

To help prepare for potential heavy rainfall, the City of West Memphis is offering free, self-service sandbags to its residents.

The pickup location is the West Memphis City Shop on 511 E. Jackson Avenue.

The Tunica County Road Department will be placing sand and sandbags for residents to use as needed at the following locations:

  • Highway 3 at Daniel’s Truck Stop
  • Verner Road at the park
  • County Laydown Yard across from the North Tunica Fire Department
  • Tunica County Road Department at the East Gate
  • Tunica Academy South of Blue Devil Road

Crittenden County Emergency Management is also providing free sandbags at the Marion Sports Complex in preparation for the incoming weather.

In the City of Marion, teamwork is the name of the game as football players from Marion High School pitch in to fill emergency sandbags!
