MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - According to the 2024 Annual Report, overall crime has dropped nearly 11% in Shelby County in 2024.

One of the most dramatic drops is a 31% drop in auto thefts and a 26% decrease in homicides after ending 2023 with a record 398 homicides.

DA Mulroy said on “A Better Memphis” that he credits his fast-track violent crime program, also known as V11, launched last year.

It focuses on swiftly prosecuting dangerous defendants and prioritizes 11 types of violent offenses― anywhere from murder to aggravated assaults and retail smash-and-grabs.

He says the V11 program has led to speedier justice, a 60% increase in jury trials over the past year, and system improvements.

The report shows a more than 10% drop in overall crime last year compared to 2023.

However, there are still ways to go to reach the levels we saw pre-pandemic back in 2019.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a $300,000 grant to support and protect Shelby County crime victims.

DA Mulroy says the victim public safety compensation program is still in the early stages.
