City leaders, Live Nation break ground on site of new music venue at Crosstown Concourse

Construction is now underway for Satellite Music Hall, a new addition to Crosstown Concourse and the Memphis live music scene.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Construction is now underway for Satellite Music Hall, a new addition to Crosstown Concourse and the Memphis live music scene.

The venue is a collaborative project between Crosstown Concourse and entertainment company Live Nation.

“We’re going to have state-of-the-art sound, lights, staging. The building has been designed specifically for live music,” says Ted Heinig, the vice president of Live Nation Southeast. “It’s gonna put Memphis in a whole new category for touring.”

After completion in mid-to-late 2026, Live Nation will host at least 100 live music events per year in the venue, which can hold up to 1,300 people.

Satellite Music Hall has a special partnership with Stax Music Academy. The school will host performances at the venue where students will perform, produce, and engineer the shows.

Crosstown Concourse President and CEO Ted Richardson revealed the venue’s name during Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony.

He says the name is a reference to Satellite Records, the original name of Stax Records from 1957 to 1961.
