City leaders discuss downward trend in crime statistics

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis Mayor Paul Young and Interim Police Chief C.J. Davis hosted a joint press conference to discuss crime data.

The two gave an overview of their latest efforts to improve safety in the city and discuss crime numbers for the 2024 year.

City officials say total crime was down 13.3% in 2024, while homicides were down 30%.

Young and Davis point to the fugitive team’s 90-day pilot program and task forces like Operation Saturday Night Live as driving factors to help reduce violent crime.
