Man killed when hot asphalt was poured on top of him

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - A man was killed when hot asphalt was poured on top of him.

According to authorities, the man was standing behind a dump truck when the hydraulics on the truck malfunctioned causing asphalt to be poured on top of him

The man, who has not been identified, was buried under the hot asphalt.

“My prayers, condolences, thoughts, my heart goes out to his family,” said Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade,

Wade called the incident “horrific.”

It happened Monday at AJ Materials on East McDowell Road in Jackson, Mississippi.

Police are investigating but say the man’s death appears to be accidental.
