Hotel deemed public nuisance, shut down
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Memphis hotel was shut down Wednesday after the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office declared it a public nuisance.
Police arrived at Memphis Extended Stay at 4300 American Way to close down the business.
Six arrests were made for people who had outstanding warrants: Montrell Burton, Chiquita Williams, Angela Garvin, Darren Coleman, Charles Tigner and Cameron Coleman.
MPD also seized drugs during their sweep of hotel rooms.
Since August 2022, police have been called to the hotel 793 times.
This includes three homicides, three “death on arrival” calls, 11 overdoses and several armed robberies and aggravated assaults.
“This closure sends a clear message that we will not tolerate properties that harbor criminal activity and threaten the safety of our community,” said District Attorney Mulroy. “We are committed to working alongside law enforcement to ensure that dangerous establishments are held accountable.”
