Mid-South Toys for Tots campaign in jeopardy without a warehouse to store donations

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC) - A local non-profit foundation says they are in desperate of free warehouse space, and time is running out.

Mid South U.S. Marine Reserves Toys for Tots serves families of underprivileged children in 26 counties in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Last year, their campaign collected over 95,000 toys and served over 22,000 children.

“Every year our program struggles to find donated warehouse space to collect, store and distribute toys,” says Carrol Howard, the coordinator for the Mid-South branch of the foundation. “During the 2021 and 2022 holiday season, we were not able to conduct a toy campaign because we could not secure any donated warehouse space.”

“We have tractor-trailers full of toys we are waiting to get into that warehouse,” says volunteer Ina Wiehl. “We have around 700 families that signed up, so the need for that warehouse is very critical for us”
