2 teens charged in threats against Memphis-Shelby County Schools

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two teens have been charged in connection to school threats against Memphis-Shelby County Schools on Wednesday.

Memphis police have charged a 15-year-old and 16-year-old with threats of mass violence on school property. The 15-year-old is accused of making threats to Whitehaven High School and the 16-year-old accused of making threats to Cordova High School.

Investigators say five individuals were detained on Thursday which led to the two teens being charged.

In addition to Friday’s arrest, a Nashville teenager was arrested and charged with making threats to Southwind High School.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says a 16-year-old at Southwind High School was detained and charged with bringing ammunition and fireworks to school Friday morning. A 13-year-old from Highland Oaks Middle School was also detained and charged with bringing an airsoft pistol to school. Both teens were transported to the Youth Justice and Education Center.

“Threats of mass violence in the City of Memphis are unacceptable. We will continue to ensure the safety and protection of students and staff by working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners,” says Memphis Police Department.
