THP releases details on crash killing 2, including MPD officer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennesse Highway Patrol released more details on a crash that killed an officer and a civilian.

A two-vehicle crash on occurred on Mississippi Boulevard and South Danny Thomas Boulevard around 3 a.m. on August 2.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report, the officers were making a right turn when a civilian veered left striking the officers on the side center.

In the THP preliminary report, no one wore a seat belt in the crash.

It is unclear if speeding was a factor.

Officer Demetrice Johnson was riding in the passenger side of the police cruiser before he was killed in the crash.

Rantavious Johnson, 22, also died in the crash.

Bobby Fields, the surviving officer, was driving the car.

Rantavious was injured from a gunshot wound due to a shooting before the crash.
